Well this week saw the start of our new session day and the weather was awful so it was a very quiet session. But we still had lots of fun with some firework themed activities to celebrate bonfire night and Diwali. We had a Diwali story and made some firework rock buns. There was firework playdough and the children used clay to create their own Diva lamp. But by far a favourite with the children this week was the chocolate breadstick sparklers....yum yum!!
Week 6 - Stevie the Shark
Wow we were so lucky today to have a REAL author visit us, bringing along one of her stories. Rosemary's mum, Andi, brought along the story 'Stevie the Shark' that she had both written and illustrated. We felt very honoured! We made under the sea creature biscuits, had a sensory ocean activity and shell fossil playdough. Andi brought along some crafts for us to do too.
Week 5 - Kipper's Birthday
This week was Mrs Catley's birthday week so we just had to have a birthday story! And a must for a birthday is cupcakes. We made party ring cupcakes, we even had a vegan version of them. We also enjoyed birthday cake playdough, rainbow foam and wrapping presents.
As harvest and Halloween approach, a few parents had requested a 'pumpkin story week'.
Pumpkin Soup was the story and pumpkin soup was the recipe of the day. It was a very busy session which required a lot of teamwork. Well done parents for helping each other out, whether it was with the cooking or the children! Extra activities included pumpkin cloud dough, hammering tees into a pumpkin, orange playdough and potion making.
Rupert's choice of story this week - The Gruffalo and Gruffalo Crumble was the recipe of the day.
Extra activities included making a clay Gruffalo, a sensory tray and a challenge to build a log pile house for the snake.
Goldilocks and the 3 Bears
Today brought Goldilocks and the 3 bears to nursery. As a change from porridge, the families created Very, berry breakfast muffins and made story stones for the children to take home to retell the story. There was a sensory tray with dried porridge, spoons and containers for the children to explore and develop their fine motor skills and coordination and then the challenge....use the Duplo to make a new chair for baby bear! They rose to the challenge with some lovely creations, not only for baby bear but for mummy and daddy bear too!! Some even used the oatmeal playdough to create their chairs. As usual the session was brought to a close with the parachute game and song, Goldilocks and Baby Bear even had a bounce.
Our first week involved baking Gingerbread men, sensory ginger rice with the story characters in to retell the story, sandpaper and cinnamon gingerbread men collage and puffy paint gingerbread men too! We had a busy and very enjoyable afternoon finishing it off with songs and parachute games.
